ATI Radeon x1600 Pro PCI-e on X64 5384

Let me try again as the last attempt at a post went in flames! I have a Radeon X1600 Pro PCI=e 512MB and have not been able to run Normal mode without first uninstalling the 2 instances of the graphics card in safe mode and booting again to let PNP install the card. I have tried all the suggestions given here up to 7/1/06 except for installing the latest XP Catalyst as that is not a WDDM driver. I have installed the beta Catalyst and on reboot I get the BSOD about timeouts related to the video. I would really like to explore the X64 Vista but so far no dice. Any help or solutions? Thanks, JonK

I assume you set the video related BIOS values to default.
Did you consult the ATI support knowledge base? E.g., you find there a guide how to deinstall old ATI software and drivers,

Does your motherboard have a VIA chipset? Incompatibilities with Radeon cards have been reported...
I had no problem in installing Vista Beta 2 x64 on an Asus K8N-E dlx with a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB.
If it's important to you, perhaps you may try another card - e.g. a cheap GeForce FX 5200 (with real) 128 MB RAM or a GeForce 6200 (with real) 128 or 256 MB RAM.

Hi Roy,
I am using a Intel D945PVS systemboard so I don't thinik I have a VIA chipset problem :). The install was a clean install as x64 does not do an update so there are no old ATI drivers to remove. I did try installing the beta catalyst pacakage and it did go through a complete install but on reboot BSOD. Thanks for your suggestions and efforts.
